NEPTUNE

Neptune was one of the six children born to Cronus and Rhea. Like his siblings, he was swallowed at birth by his father. When Cronus was overthrown by Zeus, Neptune claimed the sea as his realm, ruling from a golden palace beneath the waves.

Neptune, ruler of the seas, once fell in love with the sea nymph Amphitrite, whose beauty and grace were unmatched in all the oceans. But Amphitrite, wary of the powerful god, fled to the farthest reaches of the deep, hiding among the waves and refusing his advances.

Undeterred, Neptune sent his messengers, the dolphins, to seek her out. The clever dolphins found Amphitrite and convinced her to return to the palace beneath the waves. Grateful and moved by Neptune’s persistence and gentle devotion, she agreed to marry him, becoming the queen of the sea. Unlike the other gods, Neptune did not build, strike, or conquer.
