MARS

Ares and Hera sitting together.

Long ago, there lived a god whose fire could not be tamed. His name was Ares to the Greeks, Mars to the Romans, son of mighty Zeus and fierce Hera, and he was born for the battlefield. He was passion. He was fury. He was the raw cry of “I am!”

Born on Mount Olympus to Zeus and Hera, Mars was the lover of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Together they had several children, including Eros (Cupid). Their union was one of both beauty and chaos—a perfect expression of the dual nature of passion. Between them flowed a magnetic attraction, irresistible and eternal.

While the other gods schemed and planned, Mars acted. Not always wisely, but always boldly. His heart burned too hot for hesitation. And though his rage often brought him trouble, it was also the spark that moved mountains and toppled kings.

Yet Mars was not merely a warmonger. In truth, he was the embodiment of pure life-force—the surge of courage before the leap, the will to begin, the rush of adrenaline that floods the veins when one faces a great challenge.

He was that first spark of creation, the voice that commands, “Now!”

And so, when the great wheel of the heavens turned and the constellations were cast into the sky, Mars’s spirit took shape as the Ram—golden and bold—whose head never bowed and whose horns pointed always toward the next conquest.

This constellation became Aries, the first sign of the zodiac: the sacred initiator, the cosmic trailblazer, the one who dares.

you are the spark that dares the world to wake.

When Ares Lives in You:

If you were born under the sign of Aries, or have this fire sign prominent in your chart, then somewhere inside you beats the heart of Mars himself.

You were not made to follow.

You were not born to sit still and wait.

You are the one who starts things – who throws the first stone into the still waters, to stir life into motion.

Aries energy burns with:

• Courage – even when afraid, it moves forward.

• Initiative – it does not wait for permission.

• Authenticity – it acts from instinct, not calculation.

• Fierce independence – it seeks to define its own path.

• Raw passion – the kind that fuels creation, not just destruction.

But be aware, for Mars was not always praised among the gods. His rashness bought consequences. His temper sparked unnecessary wars. So too, Aries must learn that art of tempering fire with wisdom, and impulse with intension.
