MERCURY
Mercury is the ruling planet of both Gemini and Virgo. In mythology, he is associated with the Greek god Hermes—Mercury being his Roman name.
He was the son of Zeus and Maia, the daughter of Atlas and one of the Pleiades. According to myth, he was born in a cave on Mount Cyllene in Arcadia, a wild and sacred land in southern Greece. From the moment of his birth, he was extraordinarily gifted and precocious. That very day, he escaped his cradle, crafted the lyre from a tortoise shell, and stole Apollo’s cattle. When confronted, he charmed Apollo with the music of his new instrument, and the two half-brothers became friends.
Zeus, amused by his wit and ingenuity, appointed Hermes as the messenger of the gods and granted him a place on Mount Olympus—the only god free to travel between Olympus, Earth, and the Underworld. To speed his journeys, Zeus gave him winged sandals and a winged cap.
He became known as the trickster god, patron of travellers, communication, commerce, and trade.
A bridge between worlds, between thought and word, between intention and action.
And when the stars were named and the constellations of the zodiac were set in motion, Mercury claimed both Gemini and Virgo as his celestial domains.
